The Doge's Palace was the seat of the Venetian government for centuries and is a masterpiece of Venetian Gothic architecture. Unique architectural details abound - this was, afterall, one of Ruskin's favorite buildings. Works started in 1340 and continued for centuries, so one can find Renaissance and Mannerist elements, too. The opulent interior was decorated by the most important artists working in Venice, such as Carpaccio, Vivarini, Giorgione, Giovanni Bellini, Tintoretto, Veronese and Titian.
